the Last GASP
(note: we changed locations in 2010, we changed back in 2013)
is a small, relaxed, no-paid-performer, no-schedule, folk festival at a wooded camp in Galway, NY (20 minutes west of Saratoga Springs). It is a chance to get away and make music, hike, sing, or hang out with old friends, and/or make new ones. It is not open to the public - only to PSG members and their guests. Usually there are about 100 people who attend, many of whom attest that it is their favorite folk festival, large or small, because of the welcoming, family atmosphere and good music that happens. Camp Brookledge Camp Brookledge is a beautiful small, rustic, heavily wooded camp in Middle Grove, NY (zip: 12850) about 45 minutes northwest of Albany. There are two large open field areas for campers, RV’s and pop ups, as well as tents and all-gender bathrooms with hot water and showers. Camp Brookledge has narrow trails between small units and campsites, and access to a large open pavilion with a fire place. If it is hot, you can jump in the Ice Bucket, an aptly named, small spring-fed pond for swimming. A lifeguard for swimming will be provided during the day on Saturday & Sunday. Be sure to bring all weather gear and plenty of bug dope & sunscreen.(check the Woodhaven & Brookledge links)
The fee is $30 for full weekend, or $10 for one night; kids are free. Cash only please. Our treasurer, Bruce Pomeroy, collects it; you may have to search for him. He will also take your annual dues if you want to join on the spot, or continue membership.
Directions From the Northway: Take the exit for 9P/Saratoga Racecourse. Go west on 9P, toward Saratoga, When it crosses Rt. 50, it becomes Rt. 29. Stay on 29 for almost 10 miles, going thru North Milton and Rock City Falls. Turn Right on Benzal Rd. (Village Pizzeria on right). Benzal Rd becomes Clark Rd as you proceed approx. 1.3 miles up a hill. At the intersection with Antioch Rd. the entrance to Camp Brookledge is a hard left back into the wooded camp. (For those who are used to a sand bank on the right, much of it has been removed, leaving a sandy corner lot on the right.)
