Memorial Day Weekend  at Saratoga County Fairgrounds  - Ballston Spa, NY
google map

The weekend features concerts and workshops on Saturday and Sunday during the day; a family country dance on Saturday night, a PSG open stage Sunday afternoon, and an a capella sing Sunday night.  New for our growing audience, we have a new generation folk concert FRIDAY NIGHT with some great up-and-coming talent.  GottaGetGon audiences like to be part of the music, so performers not only have the opportunity to showcase their music, but can count on enthusiastic participation as well.

Bring a (low) folding chair, perhaps a sweater and some food for yourself.

There will be a short gathering of folks new to GGG, to help get acquainted,
in the main 4H bldg. Host: tba

Ben Miller & Anita MacDonald
This first-rate Celtic group combines the fiery sound of the Scottish Border pipes (Ben) with rich Cape Breton fiddle (Anita), accompanied by Tyson Chen on Cape Breton-style piano and PEI guitarist and fiddler Zakk Cormier. Following a stint in the internationally acclaimed Scotia-Glenville Pipe Band, band leader and Queensbury, NY native Ben Miller pursued his lifelong love of the pipes all the way to the University of Edinburgh, where he completed a post-grad degree at their School of Scottish studies. Anita MacDonald adds the fiddle tunes and Gaelic songs of her native Cape Breton to the band's repertoire.

2 workshops
  • Celtic 101  (Trustco Bldg)   - Ben & Anita
  • Weaving Harmony- (Lewis Bldg) - Atwater-Donnelly and Heather Pierson Trio

Charlie Parr
Minnesota's Charlie Parr is a blistering finger-picker who switches between acoustic guitar, dobro and banjo. His keening, cut-through-the-crowd vocals resonate with a conviction that runs deep and true. His heartfelt and plaintive original folk-blues and traditional spirituals are rooted in a humble upbringing as the son of two proud union meatpackers.

2nd set of workshops
  • Songs of Trouble and Redemption - (Trustco Bldg) Charlie Parr & Atwater-Donnelly
  • Our Common Roots: New Orleans to Cape Breton & Beyond (mostly instrmental) (Lewis Bldg) Heather-Trio with Ben & Anita

husband-wife duo from Rhode Island, known for traditional folk music and dance from Appalachia, the Ozarks, New England, Ireland, England and Prince Edward Island. They blend appealing vocals with an astounding array of instruments including the mountain dulcimer, old-time banjo, tin whistle, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, limberjacks, feet and more. Their repertoire includes traditional American and Celtic folk songs, a capella pieces, old-time gospel songs, dance tunes, and original works.

  • Songs of the Carter family (Trustco) - Atwater-Donnelly
  • Resonator Guitar (Lewis)   - Charlie Parr
3:00-3:45pm Heather Pierson Trio
Heather Pierson transforms from a quiet, serious figure into a world-class performer, opening her heart in a manner that leaves her listeners hungering for more moving from New Orleans jazz and blues to rousing Americana and poignant, original ballads. She's accompanied by Shawn Nadeau on upright bass and the GottaGetGon's own Davy Sturtevant on guitar, mandolin, dobro, fiddle and cornet, giving this ensemble a dynamic range that is truly impressive.
